I loved it. I'm not a huge fan of Gav Thorpe's work, having been a bit underwhelmed by some of his writing, but this was solid. By continuing to use this site you are agreeing to our use of cookies. The story line filled in some plot holes for me which was nice. !Sometimes the only thing that sets these books apart is the level of descriptive talent that evokes the mood and brings the horror to an eye-peeling visceral level.

Tending to their wounds, the bloodied Space Marines endeavour to replenish their numbers and return to the fray, taking the fight to the traitor Warmaster. Distraught at the crippling blow dealt to his Legion, Corax returns to Terra to seek the aid of his father – the Emperor of Mankind. There were very few exciting moments (mostly at the end) and too many pages lost with very detailed descriptions of every little thing happening but not really advancing the story in any meaningful way (for example the Labyrinth section was too long by far, and I feel that better writers, like ADB, could have written it in less then half the pages). Plus there are sections with a lot of talking about the gene seed which I found a bit dull.
The characters are pretty good and the larger theme of hope turning into tragedy (probably the largest prevailing theme of the series) is especially poignant here as even the loyal primarchs start to stumble in their attempts to navigate the civil war.The first look at Corax and his Ravenguard is an amazing story of how the Ravenguard recover from the events on Isthvan 5 and the secrets the Emperor has been keeping locked behind closed doors. Strike.
Gav spent 14 years as a developer for Games Workshop, and started writing novels and short stories in the worlds of Warhammer and Warhammer 40,000 when the Black Library imprint was launched in 1997. In a way Corax beat his brother to this, with the creation of the Raptors, ultimately the Alpha Legion got in the way of that.

Oh, and the beauty of this story was Alpha Legion (who I love) and the stolen primarch gene seed, which was then given to Fabius Bile wGood enough read.

Everything's quite one dimensional, with little to no character depth. Only one thing really bothered me here: For being a primarch that supposedly has exceptional patience (which one has to have to wage the type of war that the Raven Guard excel at), Corax seemed to be overly impetuous and prone to sudden outbursts. Deliverance Lost is the eighteenth volume in the Horus Heresy series of novels. Withdraw. This book tells why exactly.Although there were some slower parts, deliverance lost still managed to keep its story going until the end.
