There is none of that in this story. Money-making and independence is for gentlemen! I have only recently read Luke Delaney and don't usually read the same author too close together but this became available and I enjoy his writing.

And I give unending kudos to Barry for writing it.
There are so many literary and artistic elements to this novel, too: chaos theory and the quest for order, paradise/innocence lost, video games as a metaphor and motif.

However there seemed to be a few narrative threads that led nowhere, and the story as a whole was disappointing.Good god.

The story had great potential and would have benefited from some rework.

However I was still able to enjoy this book as a standalone. Not bad though. As I read the book I was very frustrated by the apparent weakness of Adam’s long-suffering wife, but towards the end she redeemed herself and hadn’t been as weak as you were led to believe through the book.

Barry Lyga does an amazing job showing the impact this event has on Josh's life. I was really gripped by this until about 3/4 of the way through.
